I'm having trouble with John, Jack, and Charles (shame, since they're most important), but here's what I got so far:

Samaranth: Voiced by Misha Collins (because I have this headcanon that
Spoiler:
).
Bug/Artus: Anton Yelchin in the first one and Dan Stevens in the later ones. Or just get Sam Claflin the whole time.
The Cartographer: Paul McGann or John Hurt.
Aven Wells: Claire Danes (as a reference to her in Stardust).
The Winter King: I was thinking Jason Isaacs or Richard E. Grant, but then I settled on Miles Richardson.
J.M. Barrie: Peter Capaldi.
Edgar Allan Poe: Timothy Omundson (I know they're for sure doing the first two movies, but if they ever do get that far in the series...)
Tummeler: Voiced by Christopher Eccleston or Colin Baker.
Harry Houdini: Adrien Brody (because of that History Channel special).
Captain Nemo: Ben Kingsley. And Rami Malik in the fourth one?

For the Scowlers, I'd love some unknown but very talented actors. And they shan't make the looks to important, the talent is important! Also, while character-wise from the book Charles is everyone's and everywoman's favourite, I wish they won't make him too handsome, but instead more charismatic. Everything else would be odd when one thinks about Charles Williams.

For one handsome person in the film, take Captain Nemo. But please, please, please use either an Indian (as according to the Verne novel) or Iraqi (as according to him being Sindbad's grandson in CotIG) actor for him. I think that would be very well, considering how common innapproriate casting is, even nowadays.

Having Johnny Depp as Barrie again wouzld be incredible but unlikely, although I could imagine him liking such a highly unusual story and setting.

For Poe, I wan't someone who can really carry the mysteriousity, same goes for Merlin, except that he has to look like Madoc.

Madoc/The Winter King/Mordred is more difficult. What about a Greek actor, considering he is supposed to be Greek? But please, without making it obvious withr idicululous Hollywood accents, etc. Otherwise, yes, Jason Isaacs would really be a fantastic pick, especially considering he played Captain Hook.

For Aven I actually have Liv Tyler in mind, because I think Aven was for John the physical (by no means personality-wise) inspiration for Arwen, although I doubt he'd ever tell her - too insulting, in her eyes I guess. And I do imagine her to be fair-faced, blue-eyed and black-haired.

For Artus/Bug, Laura Glue, Rose and Edmund some young, fresh-faced and talented kids no one has ever heard of. Edmund again can be a bit of an eye-candy, especially for younger girls.

For the animals, I think established and skilled professional voice actors, instead of "this celebrity is lending his voice to X", if you know what I mean.

I think for most of these, they were like, oh, THAT's who I was imagining as so-and-so but didn't realize at first, but whatever.

In the end, though, watch Hollywood kinda screw it all up.

OK, so, I was just on Pinterest, and I saw a picture of Alexandre Dumas (it's been a while since I read the books; he was a Caretaker, right?), and I thought he kinda looked like Richard Griffiths (Vernon Dursley from Harry Potter).

So, then I was like, "just based on that, maybe he could play... Oh wait... Damn, he's dead anyway..."

Well, I know what you mean, except that Dumas was black, so I guess it wouldn't work anyways.

But Richard Griffith's death is really sad Sad

Yay me not noticing that in those black-and-white pics...

Took me a while to notice that, too.

Also, you know, I'd want a really unique and ageless voice for Samaranth. Someone that can make you hear both, the ancient wise Dragon, but also the seemingly youthful Angel. A very dynamic voice, that can sound old in one moment and young in the other, and always frightening and calming at once.

No, but have you seen Misha Collins? Total badass as Cas on Supernatural, total dork in real life. He'd be the perfect Samaranth. And there are tons of moments where his character doesn't get pop culture references, which reminds me of that one bit in The First Dragon in Atlantis where Samaranth doesn't get Charles' Macbeth reference.

Also, I totally figured out who should play young Madoc and Merlin: Alexander Vlahos. I mean, technically he is half-Greek, half-Welsh. And he already played Morded on Merlin.

I really want Oona Chaplin as Aven. As for the Caretakers, how about Allen Leech for John?

Alexander Vlahos would be great but I'm not sure my mind could take the collision of such different interpretations of Arthurian legend.
